The environmental challenge arising from domestic appliances are related to energy need while in use, chemicals or cooling medium used, insulation materials and processes during manufacturing. Recycling of such appliances is now extensive, but also this process is an environmental challenge.

Most domestic appliances now haveenergy labelling documenting energy need according to EU specifications. Energy need in kWh/year based on a standardised test shall be given, along with noise level where applicable.

One should aim at only using appliances marked A.
